Green MSP John Finnie has congratulated Broadford and Strath Community Company on winning £5,000 in Lottery funding for events to bring the community together and celebrate the culture of Skye.
The grant comes from the Big Lottery Fund’s Celebrate programme, which funds local groups across the UK to create events or activities that bring people together in celebration of each other and the communities they live in.
A motion by Mr Finnie at the Scottish Parliament invites other MSPs to add their names to the congratulations for the successful Skye group, along with two other grant-winners in Argyll, and to celebrate the great diversity that makes every Scottish community special.
Broadford and Strath Community Company creates opportunities in the local area, especially through work to improve the local environment. Their £5,000 grant will fund a cultural programme including events to promote ceilidh dancing.
Mr Finnie said:
“I’m so pleased for Broadford and Strath Community Company. Winning this lottery funding will enable them to put on great community events that will bring people together this autumn.
“Almost nothing is more important to our happiness and wellbeing than the relationships we have with the people around us. It’s important that we celebrate our communities in all their great diversity, and I want to thank and congratulate all those across the West Highlands who give up their time to do just that.
