Response to Highland Council’s ‘Open Spaces in New Residential Developments’ Consultation

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

The following letter to the Highland Council comprises the Highlands and Islands Green Party’s response to the Council’s recent public consultation on ‘Draft Supplementary Guidance: Open Space in New Residential Developments’.

The Provision Standards are clearly generally designed to minimise unnecessary car use, which we very much welcome.  However — for allotments — while we recognise that there must be areas set aside for deliveries and collections, and disabled parking, we see no need for the provision of car parking spaces, especially as the proposed designated distance threshold is 15 minutes.  We therefore recommend that the car parking provision for allotments be removed, and that provision for a cycle shelter be included.
