Highland Green Party is asking Highland Council to reassess the need for major housing development along the A96.
Responding to the planning application by Moray Estates for a major development at Tornagrain, party spokesperson Donnie Macleod said:
“Even before the downturn in the housing market we were unconvinced that the need was there for a development of this size so close to Inverness.
“Now that the housing market is suffering from the effects of recession we ask Highland Council to reassess the need for such a development.
“The worst possible scenario would be if the development were started, destroying good agricultural land, then it was found too late that the demand was not there.
“Our opposition is not to the design and detail of the proposed plan, many aspects of which are quite good and ‘green’, but to the idea that we need to have such a development in the first place.”
