Green MSP Presses for Dornoch Rail Link To Be Included in Transport Strategy

Monday, March 19th, 2007

The failure to include a Dornoch rail link in the HITRANS Regional Transport Strategy has been strongly criticised by Dr Eleanor Scott, Green MSP for the Highlands and Islands.

Dr Scott said, “This could mean that it will be 15 to 20 years before there will be any chance of discussions of funding such a bridge despite the Scottish Executive’s claim to want to encourage more use of rail.

“Caithness and Sutherland needs development, and that development must be sustainable so that the communities there can enjoy a prosperous future.  I have written to both HITRANS and transport minister Tavish Scott to press for the Dornoch rail bridge to be included as a possibility in the Strategy — otherwise, it will remain a blueprint for road users only in the Far North.”
